UK Screen Highlights

  • Launch of All Members Forum and sub-committees
  • Response to the DCMS Film Policy Review - Thank you to all our members who helped with the consultation response. Our paper supports film tax credit and lobbies for further support across skills provision, film funding and export support
  • Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) – In collaboration with our VFX members and Skillset we were successful in getting 17 key roles onto the new Shortage Occupation List – ensuring that the industry has access to the global talent it needs. We are currently responding to a further call for evidence on Annual Migration Limits.
  • Digital Production Partnership (DPP) - A panel of UK Screen members is continuing to advise broadcasters on the proposed standards for file-based delivery and metadata. In 2012 we will be engaging in discussions on related commercial issues.
  • Support of the Next Gen report and Next Gen Skills – working with our VFX members and Skillset, UK Screen is helping to drive forward the recommendations from the Next Gen report, including the production of short educational films and an online careers hub.
  • Hosting a VFX day for the US Familiarisation trip – We worked with Film London on this year’s event which was extremely well-received, with some very positive feedback for the US Film Studio executives.

SHINING STAR

This month's winner:

November
Esther Keogh, Operations Assistant at Pinewood is November’s Shining Star. Earlier this year Esther took on a new role and responsibilities, moving out of her previously long-held sound editorial position to work alongside an Account Manager, handling one of Pinewood’s biggest and most demanding clients.
Esther’s responsibilities involve delivering first class service to customers, but also working with a diverse team to ensure brand reputation. Esther has not only excelled in terms of deadlines, achieving consistent high quality and low error output, but also has also been praised for her calm demeanour and sense of humour.

December
Rosemary Hill, Hire Co-ordinator at Alias Hire is December Shining Star! Rosemary has been with Alias for nearly two years and has used her camera experience to help Alias win and support a huge array of low and high end shoots. In particular, her knowledge has helped take the business into new areas of expertise, such as the Arri Alexa camera, along with the necessary add on’s needed, making it a huge success. Rosemary’s role is very demanding and pressurised but she embraces it with a huge smile and completes her work with the greatest of detail and accuracy.

Shining Stars is an exciting recognition scheme sponsored by Allan Chapman & James Insurance Brokers and is designed to help motivate and reward non-creative employees within UK Screen member companies, who often fulfil invaluable but unsung roles. Companies simply nominate a member of staff whose performance has been over and above the call of duty, each month a new Shining Star is chosen, and, in December, all winners will celebrate in style at a celebratory lunch, win a bottle of champagne, receive a certificate and a have a profile in UK Spotlight.
